Brocade is a textile that is attached around the thangka, usually made of silk with two narrow bands of red and yellow along with the principle dominant colour rectangular in shape. The first two narrow bands red and yellow are the representation of the rainbow colours to show that this is an auspicious painting. It has an orange yellow curtain that mounts on top of this to cover and protect the painting when not in use.
